Terms of Use

Welcome to Old Bull

Old Bull helps farmers advertise cattle and connect with buyers. Buyers and sellers deal directly with each other. They agree on the price, payment, transport and collection. Advertising does not guarantee a sale.

Advertising your cattle

Give an honest description of your animals, their condition, price and location. You must own them or have permission to sell them. Upload one to six photos, up to 5 MB each. Videos are not accepted.

Choose your province. For stud or breeding animals, you may also tick the nationwide search option at no extra cost. Slaughter-only animals do not qualify for this option.

Before submitting, agree to show your name and contact number to buyers who have signed in.

What it costs

Pay R100 per animal before the listing goes live. This payment counts towards the total fee if the animal sells.

Actual selling price per animalTotal fee per animal
R1 to R5,000R100
Above R5,000 to R10,000R200
Above R10,000 to R15,000R300
Above R15,000 to R20,000R400
Above R20,000 to R25,000R500
Above R25,000 to R30,000R600
Above R30,000R700

For example, if an animal sells for R12,000, the total fee is R300. After your R100 upfront payment, you owe R200.

If the animal does not sell, the R100 pays for the advertising already provided. No VAT is charged. Follow Old Bull’s displayed payment instructions. Payment for the animal itself goes directly to the seller.

How long your advert stays

Your listing runs for 14 days from publication. If the animals remain unsold, confirm this and request one free extension. The extension ends 28 days after the original publication date. After that, the advert is removed from the search.

Tell us when animals sell and record the actual selling price for each animal. At expiry, confirm which animals sold and which remain unsold or have been withdrawn. Complete this before uploading more animals.

If a seller leaves fees unpaid

We record the outstanding balance. A seller flagged for unpaid sale fees must settle that balance and pay the full advertised-price fee for new animals before publication. This also applies to their listings still awaiting payment. If an animal later sells at a higher price, an extra balance may be due.

If a payment or balance is wrong, contact us so we can check it. Contact us about any adjustment needed after a lower selling price.

Buying and selling responsibly

Buyers should check the animals, ownership and seller before paying. Old Bull does not certify animal health, pedigree or ownership. Buyers and sellers must follow the rules that apply to livestock sales and transport. We may remove dishonest or unlawful adverts and restrict misuse of the website.

Problems, cancellations and refunds

Contact us with your listing details if something goes wrong or you want to cancel. We will check incorrect charges, duplicate payments and advertising not supplied. An animal failing to sell does not by itself qualify for a refund.

Your rights under South African law still apply, including any cooling-off or refund rights that apply to your purchase. Where the seven-day cooling-off right for online services applies, it runs from the date of the agreement and is subject to the exceptions in law.
